Mussel Farming

Agricultural cultivation in our region is thriving, featuring two renowned products: Mussels from Lake Butrint and Mandarins from the land of tangerines in Konispol. The mussel, often referred to as the Queen of Butrint Lake, holds a significant place as the lake's primary product, influencing every action taken within its waters. The mussel farming industry, which began in the 1960s, has since flourished into a well-organized sector known for its high-quality exports. Conservation efforts were also initiated during this period to sustain local and export markets.

Today, mussels are enjoyed both as a culinary delight and a tourist attraction through experiences like "Meeting Our Queen" (Link to the Mussel Tour experience page). This unique experience allows tourists to sail on traditional farmers' boats, participate in the mussel cultivation process, and savor authentic mussel dishes.

Mandarin cultivation has become a burgeoning tourist attraction, inviting visitors to explore farms, participate in fruit harvesting, and learn about the cultivation process. The experience "Mandarin Farmers" (Link to the Mandarin Farmers experience page) offers tourists the opportunity to engage with local farmers, enjoy traditional dishes prepared by the area's women, and immerse themselves in the cultural richness of Konispoli.
