Krorëza Bay: Explore the natural beauty of Krorëza, considered one of Albania's most captivating beaches accessible only by boat. Nestled between Himara and Saranda, this bay offers virgin landscapes, tranquil surroundings, and crystal-clear waters, making it a top destination in the country. Access to Krorëza is possible by sailing or hiking along scenic footpaths.
Kakome Beach: Situated approximately 12 kilometers north of Saranda, Kakome Beach is a secluded gem and one of Saranda's finest beaches. Surrounded by untouched greenery, it remains blissfully uncrowded, making it ideal for a peaceful weekend getaway. With its short, straight shoreline and minimal infrastructure of umbrellas and loungers, Kakome Beach promises serenity away from the city's hustle and bustle.
Ask for SnorkelingSaranda, known as the "Theatre of the Sun," is renowned for its picturesque bay often referred to as the "Stage." Two public beaches line the city promenade, offering stunning views and relaxation. The national and international ports are conveniently located near the swimming stadium, with the tourist port further afield.
An intriguing piece of history lies beneath the bay's surface: the shipwreck of the Italian warship SS Probitas from World War II. Sunk in the Bay of Saranda during October 1943 by German attackers, it holds a compelling story of wartime events. For those interested in history and adventure, snorkeling and diving are ideal for exploring this historic site.

Itinerary
We met our guide at Lake Port in Ksamil and boarded his pride and joy, a traditional-style mussel boat. As we crossed Lake Butrint, he explained in perfect English how the mussels are grown and harvested. The location is stunning, with a protected lake teeming with birds and fish. The only human presence is local fishermen using handlines, with mussel shacks dotting the shoreline.
We took turns cleaning the mussels and learned about removing the ‘beard’ from each shell. Upon reaching the far shore, we were warmly welcomed by locals who had set a shaded table. Delicious smells wafted through the air as we were served wine and cold water, followed by a fine feast of mussels. A plate of grapes and more wine followed. Our only company was a dog and a cat who slept at a polite distance.
With adequate washing and toilet facilities available, it was a perfect afternoon. As the sun set on our return, we enjoyed a glorious sunset for dessert. We went with another couple, and all agreed it was excellent value for money and a unique, authentic experience. Certainly not hackneyed tourism, I thoroughly recommend this educational and gastronomic tour. You almost feel you are experiencing what the ancients enjoyed. You can’t put a price on pure, delicious simplicity.
